I'm trying something different with my horses with their feeding. Normally this time of year they get fed hay 2x's a day because the pasture is rather dead. I've wanted corrals with shelter to feed them when it's pouring down rain and also have feeders so they aren't eating hay in the mud. I'm getting closer....
I got 3 24x24' pipe corrals from my other house and had one here with a shelter so with those, and the round pen everyone pretty much eats in their own pen except baby is in with mommy. Yeah. I can keep Summer eating more and Ali'i eating less......
I'm trying Stable Mix pellets 1x a day, as our pastures are really green this year ~ early rainful! Hopefully it's the ticket. They get a complete feed in the morning then can still graze 24/7 when they're done. I like the way it's working. Boys get teal colored buckets, girls get pink. Duh.
And baby eats with her front hoof in the bucket......?????
I have these carabiner/strap things to hook the buckets on. At first I didn't secure them good enough and always found several flung (Khaliq & Ali'i???) into the pasture. I fixed that now but I still see plenty of horsey spit on them trying to get the straps loose. Anyway, it's really CLEAN in the pens now, and no mucky, ucky, hay embedded into the earth. Cool.
