I gotta admit I was a little NERVOUS today. Like I sorta wanted to cry slightly, because I was worried we'd have a repeat of last week. But I must have kept it from Sage because she did not care about much except gettin' down the track and finding her glove!
I was so glad Sue was there for so many reasons. She really has been the motivating reason to drive an hour in one direction at the crack of dawn several days a week for several months each year to traipse in a field with my collie looking for a dropped article. Weird yet addicting, this sport of tracking. Yet, I have always loved it and am glad I am addicted. I can tell you I probably wouldn't be doing this if I still lived down south and hoping to find a talented person to coach me and my beautiful Sage. It helps to have Thrill as a role model too and that in itself is very motivating. Tevis & Tracking. Two very wonderful reasons to live in Northern California.
The draw was at 7 am and there were 9 dogs running. I drew the 4th place spot again and may have ended up in one of my very favorite fields to track in though I didn't know til just before we ran. I still was nervous though. And I still wanted to cry slightly....in case we didn't do it. Sage is such a good dog and I guess I just wanted it official.
Waiting and ready.....
Putting on Sage's harness. She almost never is aggressive to start, as I can have her just stand there while I put her harness on and then clip the line to her. Today I thought she was going to leave as she really was chompin' at the bit, so I let her go before I even got my second glove on.
Here I'm pulling on my second glove.
At a turn.
Judges walking up. We also had an AKC rep there walking behind with the tracklayer.
Sage finds the next leg and wants to make sure she knows I know!!!
Crossing the same road we crossed last week but not in the same area. Sage didn't bolt across it as she got a little distracted, then thought she'd sniff a spot so I told her to "Leave it!" and she did, found her track and we were off again.
Our last leg and on to the glove!!!!
The judges, rep & tracklayer walking up to congratulate us! Then 2 minutes later they're off to walk to the next track and we have our celebratory walk alone back to Sue and her big wazooooo camera. It was the best walk ever with Sage!!!
She carried her glove 1/2 back to the car and was pretty proud of herself. I was pretty proud of Sage!
Waiting for awards. I had my car keys attached to the rear of my pants so they wouldn't be in the photo. Lookie cute Sage Brush!!!! She's a TD doggie!!!!
From L to R; Track Layer ~ Auben Winters, Judges ~ Judy Stromquist & Dr. William T. Pat Beauchamp.
All the qualifiers today. 5 Goldens, 2 Gorden Setters, 1 Collie!!!! Unfortunately the only dog who didn't qualify (Rottweiler) came all the way from Idaho. Hopefully they get their TD soon!
Our glove & start article!!!
Today was REALLY COOL!! My friend Sue is REALLY COOL!! My collie Sage is REALLY, REALLY SUPER DUPER COOL!!!! ♥
It's been 30 years since my first TD, but since Kai is going out tomorrow for his first day of tracking, I suspect it won't be another 30 before I get a 3rd TD!!! What FUN!!!
