I was in Auburn taking a water sample in (apparently drinking water from a 500' well isn't safe enough unless someone tells you it is) and I drove past this most beautiful bronze sculpture. The photograph doesn't do this justice, but all I can say it I really couldn't breath when I saw it. I then noticed across the road was this artist's gallery and work place. His name is Douglas Van Howd. I went in there and spent quite a bit of time talking with the girl at the desk and manhandling his bronzes. He also is a painter and I suspected he was an Art Center graduate. He went to the "old" Art Center in Los Angeles in the 50's (I graduated from the "new" AC in Pasadena in '83). Anyway, it was such a thrill to be in the presence of this man's work. I also got info on some drop-in drawing classes which I'll do when we get more settled. Anyway, this particular sculpture is so beautiful ~ what a talent!!
